Using LAN to Aid Refugees
From October 2001 to November 2002, an International UN Volunteer (IUNV) worked as a Local Area Network (LAN) administrator for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Eastern Sudan. He, along with five other IUNVs in the field office of Es Showak, dealt primarily with the repatriation of Eritrean refugees. In addition to managing the office LAN, the IUNV maintained radio equipment installed in three field offices and in more than thirty vehicles. He went on to work as a regional Telecoms Technician for UNHCR, covering five countries in Central Asia.
