Empowering Women through Information and Dialogue
As part of a three-year contract beginning in April 2002, a National
UN Volunteer (NUNV) has been supporting the Gender and Social Development
Unit in Katmandu in their pilot project to empower women and girls
in poor communities through information delivery and dialogue to
address HIV/AIDS. The Volunteer's tasks include setting up the
Internet link with the digital audio studio and installing the
audio and computer equipment, including software. He also provides
assistance with all technical problems of the program.
Spreading Awareness through Broadcasting
Starting a one-year assignment in April 2004, an NUNV has been assisting
in a regional UNDP project to broadcast themes on empowerment of
women and girls in poor communities and HIV/AIDS discrimination through
the Digital Broadcast Initiative (DBI). Broadcast via local FMs,
the radio shows are receiving a wide and enthusiastic audience, comprised
of individuals and over 450 outreach groups.
Technical Support
From August 2003 to August 2004, an NUNV provided technical support
to the National Information Technology Center (NITC) as well as other
government offices. He was also involved in the establishment of
several telecenters and followed up with frequent field visits.
