Call for Information: Impact of ICTs on HIV/AIDS - October 2002

Many organizations focused on HIV/AIDS education, prevention and treatment have tapped the Internet to enhance opportunities for learning, collaboration and technical support.

Unfortunately, many HIV/AIDS organizations serving developing countries do not yet have the resources and the skills to use the Internet effectively. In addition, Internet content designed for these organizations and the people they serve is rare.

UNITeS would like to track success stories in using ICT to educate, to prevent and to treat HIV/AIDS, and promote good practices and resources from these existing efforts to other organizations, particularly if these efforts involved volunteers in some way. UNITeS is seeking stories from organizations of any size serving high poverty areas which have used ICT-computers, software, hardware, cell phones, etc.-in some way to support:

  • activities that address HIV/AIDS
  • HIV/AIDS prevention efforts
  • people living with HIV/AIDS
  • We would like to know:

  • what ICT tools have you used in these endeavors
  • what benefits has use of these tools afforded both the organization and the people it serves
  • how ICT tools have been integrated into the organization's traditional HIV/AIDS education, prevention and treatment programs
  • what obstacles did your organization face in using ICT tools and how did you address those obstacles
  • suggested practices in using ICT for such activities
  • how volunteers were involved in these activities, if at all
  • Please include:

  • the name of the organization
  • the URL of the organization's web site (if available)
  • Submit this information to info@unites.org
