UNITeS again named finalist in Stockholm Challenge - June 2002UNITeS has been selected as a finalist in the Stockholm Challenge for the second year in a row. The Stockholm Challenge is a non-profit initiative of the City of Stockholm, Sweden, and a unique awards program for pioneering ICT projects world wide. The Stockholm Challenge focuses on the positive effects of today's information society, and the benefit information and communication technology can bring people and society. The technology itself is not the issue. Its web site notes, "The Stockholm Challenge is not only a competition, but a meeting place for people who share a vision about the future. The big challenge is to bridge the digital divide." 101 ICT Projects from 40 countries around the world were selected finalists for 2002. Most of the finalists come from the US, with 16, India with 11 and Sweden with 10. Other countries, representing the world-wide dissemination are Lithuania, Czechia, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Zimbabwe, South Korea and Cuba. There are 20 other finalists in the same category, Education, as UNITeS. The winners in each category will be announced and celebrated in September 2002.
