Mongolia

UNITeS is collaborating with UNDP´s activities to enhance the ICT capacities of students and the educated workforce by acculturating them to use ICT to solve real-life problems. Whether it will be the establishment or the encouraging of knowledge-based businesses, the enhancement of learning in the schools, or the obtaining of price and weather information by herders, UNDP is working to expand the uses and opportunities of ICT to enhance the lives of people in Mongolia. This Mongolian project has a regularly-updated web site that provides information about the project's ongoing ICT4D activities.

One IUNV as a Content/Electric Publishing specialist. The specialist is responsible for passing on the knowledge of content creation to the appropriate people. Planned to be working with Open Web Centre (NGO) and Decentralisation Projects where contents production skills are needed). One IUNV as a Network Specialist. The specialist will be responsible for building capacity of national technicians in designing, establishing and managing computer networks; planned to be working with UNDP/APDIP Internetworking Academy, set at the Technical University).

One IUNV as an ICT Education Policy Specialist. The Specialist is responsible for furthering the opportunities of ICT applications in educational fields through assisting Mongolia to further its ICT for Education Policies.

In December 2001, UNV ICT Volunteers held their first learning session, part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen the network of ICT experts and practitioners both local and foreign staff working in Mongolia. It was attended by 20 enthusiastic and energetic participants from both private and government sector.
