Assessing E-Readiness
During a two-year assignment, an International UN Volunteer (IUNV)
from Guinea conducted an assessment of “e-readiness” with
regards to ICT integration in the national development process. The
IUNV specifically focused on infrastructure, capacity and policies.
He helped the Burundian National Steering Committee prepare a needs
assessment and subsequently supported activities necessary to formulate
a national strategy. He further contributed by setting up a Knowledge
Management Unit in the UNDP office.
Bringing IT to the Corporate Sector
In 2002, two International UN Volunteers (IUNVs) from the Italian organization
Seniores Italia, working under , assisted
l’Institut d’Informatique et de Telecommunications from 2 to
24 October. They trained the company’s technicians in the development
of hardware and software, the website, the information network and the
database. They also offered a training course on e-commerce to the Institute
staff. A further Italian IUNV followed up from 13 November to 15 December
2003, and focused on the development of ORACLE and LINUX applications.
