Training Disadvantaged Youth in ICT
Under , an International UN Volunteer
(IUNV), from the organization Seniores Italia in Italy, assisted the
association “SOS Jeunesse en Détresse” from 1 March
to 28 May 2003. The IUNV trained disadvantaged youth in computer sciences,
electronics and new technologies such as the Internet, multi-media,
network installation and cellular technology. One month after the training
course, one third of the attendees found a job.
Supporting Cisco Academies
Since 2002, a National UN Volunteer (NUNV) has been helping implement
the by establishing Local
Academies at three universities. The Academies train students from
various social backgrounds in network administration and Internet
technology skills. The NUNV has sensitized the students to ICT
through discussions and debates. Furthermore, he has conducted
a report assessing
the extent to which women play a role in ICT service departments
in firms and organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
