Training Disadvantaged Youth in ICT
Under UNV’s Corporate Sector Program, an International UN Volunteer (IUNV), from the organization Seniores Italia in Italy, assisted the association “SOS Jeunesse en Détresse” from 1 March to 28 May 2003. The IUNV trained disadvantaged youth in computer sciences, electronics and new technologies such as the Internet, multi-media, network installation and cellular technology. One month after the training course, one third of the attendees found a job.

Supporting Cisco Academies
Since 2002, a National UN Volunteer (NUNV) has been helping implement the Cisco Networking Academy Program (CNAP) by establishing Local Academies at three universities. The Academies train students from various social backgrounds in network administration and Internet technology skills. The NUNV has sensitized the students to ICT through discussions and debates. Furthermore, he has conducted a report assessing the extent to which women play a role in ICT service departments in firms and organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
