Bhutan

These ICT volunteering assignments in Bhutan are in collaboration with the Government of Bhutan, who has launched a comprehensive strategy to introduce the use of ICTs in many of its official institutions and for provision of information to the public. These ICT volunteers are part of the UNITeS team and are working in the context of an overall project, sponsored by the Government of Japan, focused on institutional-strengthening and training.

An International UN Volunteer (IUNV) IT Training Specialist served at a Youth Centre in Thimphu. She advised and trained her counterparts on effective management systems and services of IT facility; assisted in awareness-raising activities and assessed formal/informal training needs of both students and youth; assisted in the development and implementation of training programme on Microsoft office products and internet applications; and trained of trainers for Youth Centre staff in IT applications. IUNV ICT for Development Specialist: Under the supervision of the National Project Director, the Specialist will coordinate for the effective implementation of the project by ensuring the timely implementation of the project work plan. He/she will provide the technical support to the strengthening of the technical and managerial capacities of the Division of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications

IUNV LAN/WAN Specialist for the Ministry of Finance. Will work with LAN/WAN Administrators from the various departments including: Budget and Accounts, Revenue and Customs and Aid and Debt Management. Will assess training needs of administrators and implement training programme; implement data security mechanisms; provide basic training on the internet and e-mail and how it can be used to promote the objectives of the Ministry and its departments; assist in the creation of a MoF website that contains information relevant to both the Ministry as well as the public.

IUNV LAN/WAN Specialist for the Ministry of Agriculture. Will assess current network operations and develop training program; train members of the Web Development Group in web design and content developmen, for development of MoA website and Intranet.

IUNV LAN/WAN specialist for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in particular for LAN administrators of various departments including Tourism Authority, Division of Power and Division of Trade and Industry. Will assess current network operations and develop training program for LAN administrators; implement data security mechanisms; Advise and train in the development and set up of an information database management system

IUNV Financial Management Training Specialist at the Royal Institute of Management. Will assist in National IT curriculum development and design of syllabus for IT related training within the country; in support of Institute's priority objective of designing and delivering Computer Based Training (CBT) in all courses especially in the area of Financial and Information Management.

IUNV as IT Curriculum Specialist at Sherubtse College, working mainly towards institutional strengthening in computer sciences and application. Will be responsible for strengthening human resources through staff training; provide of technical expertise in software applications; train designated College staff in effective delivery of IT extension courses; provide guidance and support in the over-all management of the Computer Lab/Centre.
